The privacy policy of MindmapMySurvey
The extension MindmapMySurvey builds the mind map and the PDF of your survey inside your browser. So that you can import your survey into a questionnaire builder, every mind map that the extension saves contains your survey's data, which includes the words of your survey and the address of the survey's page. The extension saves the mind map's file only on your computer, and if you share that file, each person who receives the file also receives your survey's data. The extension sends us data only in the following three cases:
- i) When you click "Consent" in the pop-up "Report a problem", the extension sends us your report.
- ii) When you have agreed to send the usage report, the extension sends us the usage report.
- iii) Before your first map, the extension asks you to sign in, and the extension then sends us your email address. If you typed your name into the box "Your name (optional)", the extension also sends us that name.
We receive your report of a problem only when you click "Consent"
When you click "Consent" in the pop-up "Report a problem", the extension sends us the following report:
- i) The extension sends the survey's data file and the mind map's file.
- ii) The extension sends your description of the problem and, if you typed one, your email address.
- iii) The extension sends the version of the extension and the name and the version of your browser.
If you have signed in to your account, the extension also sends us the proof of your sign-in, so that our server can answer the reports of a paid account first. Unless you untick the checkbox "Hide the survey's words", the extension first replaces every word that you typed into your survey with a placeholder, such as "Question 3" in place of a question's words.
We use your report only so that we can repeat the problem and fix it. If you gave us your email address, we use that address only so that we can write to you about the problem. We keep each report for 12 months, and our server then deletes it. If you want us to delete your report earlier, write to us at the address at the end of this policy, and give the report's number, which the pop-up showed you after you sent the report.
Our server, which stores the reports, runs at DigitalOcean, and our email provider delivers to us the emails that our server writes about each report. Apart from those two providers, we give no report to anyone, and we sell no report.
The usage report
When you first use the extension, the extension asks whether you agree to send us a usage report. Only if you click "Yes, send the usage report", the extension sends us, after each mind map and each PDF, a usage report that contains the following data:
- i) The usage report contains the numbers of the survey's pages, questions and skip-logic rules, the number of the survey's questions of each question type and the survey's number of responses.
- ii) The usage report says whether the survey uses piping, a random order, quotas, custom variables, A/B tests or scoring.
- iii) The usage report contains the codes of the parts of the survey that the extension could not convert and the codes of the problems that the extension found in the survey, such as a question that no respondent can reach.
- iv) The usage report contains the plan of your SurveyMonkey account, such as Basic.
- v) The usage report says whether you clicked "Generate mind map" or "Generate the PDF", and it contains the version of the extension, the name and the version of your browser and the date.
- vi) The usage report contains a random number that the extension created for your browser and a code from which nobody can work out the survey's id.
The usage report contains no word of your survey and no address of a page. So that we can learn which survey features each of our users relies on and which conversions we should improve first, our server stores each usage report under your account, and we use the usage reports for no other purpose. We keep each usage report for 24 months after the end of the month in which it reached our server. In the extension's window, in the panel "Settings", which the gear icon at the top right corner of the window opens, you can stop the usage report at any time and delete every usage report that your browser sent.
Your account
Before your first map, the extension asks you to sign in, and each time that you sign in, you accept the terms of use. When you sign in, the extension sends us your email address and, if you typed one, your name. When you sign in, and when you are in the panel "Our terms of use changed" and click "I accept", our server stores the following data about that acceptance of the terms of use:
- i) Our server stores the version of the terms of use that you accepted and the date and the time of the acceptance.
- ii) Our server stores the internet address from which the acceptance reached our server.
- iii) Our server stores the city, the region and the country from which the acceptance reached our server, which Cloudflare, the company through which the requests of the extension reach our server, works out from the internet address.
Our server stores the data of each acceptance together with your email address and, if you typed one, your name. Our server also stores the end of your trial and the state of your subscription. Stripe processes your payment and stores your card. So that Stripe can compute the tax on your subscription, Stripe's payment page asks for your billing address, which Stripe stores and our server does not store. Of the data that Stripe sends about your subscription, our server stores only the following data:
- i) Our server stores the id of your subscription.
- ii) Our server stores the state of your subscription and whether you cancelled the subscription.
- iii) Our server stores the end of the period that you paid for.
- iv) Our server stores the id of your customer record at Stripe.
So that the extension can show what changed in a survey, the extension keeps the data files of your earlier maps only in your browser and never sends those data files to us. In the extension's window, in the panel "Settings", which the gear icon at the top right corner of the window opens, you can delete the history of your maps. In the same panel, you can also sign out and delete your account. When you delete your account, our server does the following things:
- i) If your account has a subscription that is not yet cancelled, our server cancels that subscription at once.
- ii) Our server deletes the record of your account, which contains your email address, your name and the data of each acceptance of the terms of use.
- iii) Our server deletes every usage report that it stored under your account.
If your account received a free trial, our server then keeps only a code that our server computes from your email address and that does not contain the address. Our server gives no second free trial to a new account whose email address gives the same code. Stripe keeps the records of your payments for as long as the law requires.
